Environment-Design

My idea with this was to create a forward operating base for a sci-fi military, due to my picked themes being sci-fi dystopia i decided for a dark colour scheme along with my centerpiece it should bring across an aura of dominance and an imposing nature.

My inspirations for this are Star Wars namely the Citadel Tower from Rouge One as well as some of Simon Stålenhag’s art. The deeper colours of the structures add to an feeling of authority taking inspiriation from the citadel from Half Life 2.

In place of vehicles i used models of the M1126 Stryker as it has the look of a near future APC, for buildings i used assets from both Mission to Minerva and the Polar Sci-Fi facility. For decoration, pieces from both Construction Site VOL 1 & 2 were used to give the site a work in progress / supply base look.

I place the site in a crater to give it an air of uniqueness to aide this only VTOL aircraft were used to add to the realism of the site. I would have liked to add more vehicle to give the site more diversity however the assets i found were not for the version of Unreal we were using.

My first concept was for a Martian Airbase however after some more in depth concepting i decided that such an idea was inferior to my current idea as it clashed with my hope of using a crater.

My center piece was created to act as a large and imposing tower which is adorned with a large radar dome to amplify the military aesthetic. For lighting i have changed the Unreal standard lighting to a directional one to get shadow cast from the crater edge down into the crater itself, the center piece was also designed in such a way as to be visible at all times which brings across the feeling of being watched.

If i were to choose different themes i would more than likely have gone for Fantasy and Decay, perhaps building an old ruin being taken over by plant growth or some sort of dark magic causing it to fall into ruin.

Should I go back to my environment to improve i would add more buildings and more diverse vehicle choices.
